Was asked this by several people, so I put together a texture tutorial on how I currently do metal textures.
This won't be seamless but you can use the offset filter in photoshop to make it seamless.

If you replace step 5 with "Take a photo of a metal texture and make it seamless" (could be self taken photo) you will end up with a seamless texture. The other steps, like sponge, are procedural, so they stay seamless.
